Comments: Written by her grandson, John Stott
I have no knowledge of my Grandma Carters parentage, but I gather she came from Harlaxton in Lincolnshire. Grandma was a gentle kindly plump woman, who made a great success of  bringing up six children who even later in life at the time that I  knew them loved and respected her, and also referred to her as Mama. Like every one else life dealt her it’s fair share of grieve, the worse time that I remember for her was when I was about Twelve years of age, the death’s of her husband, son and son-in-law all happened with-in Six weeks, when my Grandad died my grandmother moved to Eccleshill to live with my Aunties-Cissy(Fanny) and Nellie, they had a sweet and tobacconist shop in Stoney Lane. (or other-wise known as Up Town). My Grandma died at the shop in March 1947, she was buried with-in the same grave as Grandad Carter at Burnsal Church. That year is well remembered by me because after the great snows of that year the Hurst was only just able to get through the snow after Burnsal had been cut off for weeks, the snow was piled as high as the telegraph poles.
