Comments: Written by his son, John Stott
Herbert Stott was born at Moorside Farm Eccleshill, After a few years he moved with his mother, father and sister Annie to Bank Top Farm,  Eccleshill,  Bradford. This farm was about Fifty acres and carried about Twenty Five head of Stock, mainly Shorthorn dairy cattle. my father Herbert Stott as a young man was a good looking strong man capable of a lot of hard work. Unfortunately he had a very hard life and by the time he was Forty his health had deteriorated. he suffered from Emphysemia and Asthma and he died when he was Sixty One. He married my mother Florence May Carter at Coniston Church on the 9th of December 1925, they then went to live with fathers parents. My father worked for his father who only paid him spending money for working seven days a week fifty two weeks a year, with out any holidays. My father Herbert Stott's wages (spending money) ammounted to Ten Shillings a week, plus his keep (Ten shillings in to days currensy would be fifty pence) He took the tenancy Hill Top Farm, Birkenshaw. Nr Bradford in 1945, although his health deteriated and he had to retire from farming four years later when he bought a small milk round, which he and my mother delivered together, although even this became  too much for him. My memories of my father were of a couragous man who liked people rather than fame. His ashes were laid to rest in Schoolmoor Cemetery Lidgetgreen. Bradford
