The mother-in-law

So I'm sure anyone who knows me knows about Laura's mother. I'm not going to get tied up in the details here because what happened last night is fairly exemplary of what she is like anyway.
Last night we went to the pictures. As per my previous post, Anya had been a nightmare on Sunday night so my mum and dad had offered to look after Anya last night so that we could have a nice peaceful evening.
At the pictures we saw "Saw" which was pretty good I thought. The acting was a little questionable at the end but it was probably made worse by the idiot kids on the back row who felt that they had to make jokes about it in loud voices. I hate the way that whenever you see a film there is always some idiot who feels like they are being clever by ruining the film for everyone else. They need to be shot.
Anyway, while we were at the pictures Laura's mum tried to get hold of us. Obviously I couldnt answer my phone so true to form Laura's mum felt that it would be a good idea to ring my mum and dad.
She has had trouble getting in touch with Laura since Sunday because Laura left her mobile at my mum and dads house so she felt the need to let my mum and dad know this. My mum pointed out that we had been round at their house on Sunday to have a meal to say thankyou to Russ, Badger (who couldnt make it) and Paul for helping us move house and that Laura had left her mobile there.
At some point in the conversation Laura's mum found out that Anya was with my mum and dad and immediately made some comment about Laura being a bad mother for leaving her daughter with someone else when she had had a bad night the night before.
My mum tried to point out that they were just helping out as we had had a bad night because they are family and families are there for each other. Thats what families do.
Eventually we left the cinema and Laura rang her mum. We had no previous knowledge of my mums conversation with Laura's mum and in fact I only just spoke to my mum this morning and found out about it.
Laura's mum told Laura that she had rung my mum and my mum had said that we were round there on Sunday night having a family meal because thats what families do. She twisted my mums words to make it sound like my mum was having a dig at her. Unfortunately Laura believed her mum and despite my arguments to the contrary Laura could not be convinced using arguments like "why would my mum say something like that out of the blue?"
Because that is what Laura's mum is like. Thats why.
I can only presume that Laura's mum was drunk. She has a habbit of getting drunk on a nearly daily basis and calling people up and letting them know what she really thinks.
Sadly I think that Laura's mum is jealous of the relationship that has developed between Laura and my mum. Instead of trying to improve the relationship she has with Laura she feels that the best solution is to try to undermine the relationship that Laura and my mum have.
As is stands right now I am not a happy man. I have only just spoken to my mum and Laura is still convinced that my mum said what Laura's mum said she said. My mum is dropping Anya off at about 11 and I have asked her to speak to Laura to let her know what really happened.
What has upset me more than anything in this is not that Laura's mum has created this situation - she does this kind of thing all the time - but that Laura believed her.
No doubt updates will follow later today.
ttfn.
