My weekend
I really hate Mondays. I'm sure I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again.
Anyway, Friday my mum, dad and Reece came over. Laura cooked us all something up and then we played some poker. It came down to Reece and dad and they both went all in on the last hand but in the end Reece won. It was a pretty nice evening just chilling out with the family.
Saturday I finished book 2 of the wheel of time so I was straight to Warrington to buy the third book. I headed over to WHSmiths as I had some vouchers to spend there. They had all 10 books from the wheel of time series but each and everyone looked like it had been drop-kicked onto the shelf. Pages were torn, corners were dented and what was worse was that they only had one copy of each book in stock. They offered to reduce the price but I wasn't interested so I kindly advised them that I would take my business to Waterstones instead. I can't believe that they would put those books on their shelf and aside from that, someone must have seen the condition of the books and not bothered to order new ones.
Anyway, Waterstones had a nice mint copy of the book I wanted so all was well.
After that we headed over to DFS so that Laura could look at a new sofa for the new house. If we buy on credit then we can afford a pretty nice sofa so that should all be ok.
Then we went to Blockbuster and rented a couple of dvds for the weekend.
That night we got a KFC. I have to make a point now of saying that our local KFC is awful. Saturday night was a prefect example of this. I went in to find (on a saturday night) only one person on the tills. Whilst I was waiting to get served people gave up and left because it was taking so long. I placed my order. Surprisingly enough they didnt have what I wanted and I had to make do with something else. What did actually surprise me was that this time they had chicken gravy which they usually dont. Usually I go in and order chicken gravy and they say "sorry we dont have any of that - do you want mushy peas instead". Yeah. Mushy peas. Thats the same as gravy...
Anyway, we got our KFC and watched 50 first dates (Laura's choice) which was ok. Its a bit of a chick flick with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in it. Some funny stuff in it but still ultimately a chick flick.
So Sunday I had a HUGE lie-in (ie didnt get up until 10 - that counts as a lie-in now) and we went over to Warrington car-boot sale. It's a real shame and I have noticed this a lot with car-boot sales recently; there are always a lot of stalls set up that belong on a market not at a car-boot sale. It's not people selling off their junk, it's people selling cheap goods. So all we got in the end was some pig thing that Laura wanted. I saw a Star Trek game which I had previously thought about buying on ebay but the guy wanted £5 for it which was a little steep and I told him that I had seen it cheaper on ebay to which he replied "ok, I'll sell mine on ebay then" which doesnt make one iota of sense but anyway, sale lost.
After that we had a fry-up for breakfast although it was more like lunch time when we had it. After that Laura went back to bed (the price of my lie-in was that she was up at the crack of dawn) and I looked after Anya for a few hours. Russ was supposed to be coming round at about 4pm and he finally turned up at 7.15pm which is a new record even for Russ but we played some more D+D and Warhammer Quest which was pretty cool.
After Russ left me and Laura watched The Butterfly Effect which I thought was pretty good. Laura said she enjoyed it too although she thought it started to drag towards the end but I didnt really feel that at all. I checked on www.rottentomatoes.com this morning and they only rate it at about 40% which is not good at all so dont rent it on my recommendation but still, I thought it was pretty good.
I do have one thing to say about www.rottontomatoes.com and that is that they really seem to be quite harsh about their ratings. I very rarely see a film that they rate as being "fresh" which is their way of saying "good" so dont believe them too much.
