so tonight I finally signed up for online poker and tried it out. Reece has been using Ladbrokes poker for a while so I knew it would be safe and he does occasionally mention that he wins a bit of money on there.
After an evening of playing I can safely say that my account is closed and will never be reopened.
Fortunately this isnt because I lost an absolute fortune - I know how much I can spend and I wouldnt be silly enough to think that throwing money at something would guarantee success. However, I did end up losing almost constantly all evening, occasionally winning a hand to bring myself up a little bit but ultimately losing anyway.
I really did not enjoy myself - its one thing to have some beers with some friends and lose a few quid (or win a few) but there is no satisfaction at all to be taken from losing at online poker. I guess if you are winning then it is slightly better but its not like playing against your mates - it seemed like I couldnt do a thing right. I could have just been unlucky but the result is still the same.
A few examples of my bad luck tonight are these:
1. I get a pair of twos. Not much chance of winning with that so when someone raises, I fold. On the flop comes another two. I would have won.
2. I get a 3 and a 4. Someone raises, I fold, on the flop comes another 3 and 4. I would have won.
3. I get a 2 and 3. Someone raises, I fold, on the flop comes 4, 5 and 6. I would have won.
4. I get a pair of aces. I play conservatively to make everyone think I have a bad hand and dont raise but everyone folds anyway.
Couple that with the fact that I got a Jack with low-card about 50% of my hands (I noticed the pattern emerging when I realised that a Jack with a low-card is chuffing useless) and I had a really frustrating night.
So the moral of the story is - stick with Roulette. At least you know the odds with Roulette and we all know my theories on that ;-)
