An Dunan
An Dunan is a rock outcropping near Ardfernal on the Isle of Jura - on my map I've marked it with a blue arrow.

The area just to the left of the red arrows is a hill covered in a wood which you have to cross to get to the other side.
This is a picture of the cottage we stayed in last time we were there. The picture was taken from part way up the hill on my way over.
Getting over the hill isn't easy going - this is Laura half way up just before she headed back to the cottage ;-)

This is the view from on top of An Dunan back towards the hill I'd just crossed. When I'm on top of An Dunan I feel like I'm stood somewhere that no one else has been for a very long time. My research revealed that An Dunan means "little fort" and in fact somewhere between 700BC and 500AD, this rock formation was used as a "fort". I haven't found out exactly what that means - whether it was just a good place for looking out to sea or if there was some kind of structure there (although I suspect the former of the two.)

It has made me very tearful to read this entry in your blog. Life seems to keep us moving at such a fast pace and it means a lot to me that this part of Jura is special to you because our times there when you were young are some of the happiest times in my life. I hope that you are able to revisit this place from time to time and allow your children the sense of freedom that you had when you were there. I love you, my darling boy xxxx
HI Bren
Loved your blog on Jura, remember when you presented me with the Deer's Antler, I felt very thankful that you presented it to me when you came down from going over to " An Dunan". Grandma and myself love you dearly xxx
